W. W. Johnson, the host of Jazz Jambalaya, was born and raised in Shreveport, La. He has been involved in music all of his life. A friend of the family bought him his 1st record as a birthday gift when he was five (5) years old, (Marvin Gaye - I Heard It Through The Grapevine), and that started the passion of music listening. At age 10, he began playing Drums for his middle school concert band, and would develop of a love for playing Jazz. He moved to Dallas in the summer of '79, immediately after graduating from high school, and attended El Centro College and later University of North Texas. During this period he played in several different Jazz and Pop Bands, and even played briefly in a Punk band. W. W. graduated in '84 from UNT, majoring in Computer Science, and started earning a living in the IT world. He has worked for UPS, Sprint, Microsoft, EDS, Alcatel, Corporate Express, Tivoli, and Centex Homes. Even though playing in bands had ceased, he still listens to music constantly and frequently records his own music under the moniker, Sampson-Gamma Electric Company. W. W. has a passion for Jazz, and for good music period, regardless of the genre. His belief is "Good Music is Good Music, no matter what style it's in. If an Artist is blessed to create something that sounds good, then it has the potential to be heard and enjoyed by a lot of people for decades."
